Zak Zaz was a Human male Mandalorian who worked as a doctor at a hospital in the New Mandalorian capital city of Sundari on Mandalore during the Clone Wars. When hundreds of Sundari school children were taken to the hospital where he worked, suffering from some manner of poisoning, Zaz was able to correctly diagnose the cause of their illness to be heavy concentrations of the chemical slabin within the tea they had consumed.

BiographyEdit

A Human male, Zak Zaz was a Mandalorian and a member of the peaceful New Mandalorian faction. Zaz was a trained doctor who worked in one of the newly opened hospitals in the New Mandalorian capital city of Sundari on Mandalore.^[1]

In the wake of Mandalore's reestablished neutrality,^[3] trade routes to Mandalore were closed, forcing the New Mandalorian people to turn to a black market network of trade in order to obtain the supplies they so desperately needed. From this black market network came a group of Moogan smugglers, who illegally imported cases of Ardees Beverage tea to Sundari; these smugglers wished to maximize their profits and thus used the chemical slabin to dilute the tea. However, the Moogans added too high of a slabin concentration to the tea, making it toxic for an unwary consumer. Distributed to Sundari's schools, the slabin-laced tea soon had hundreds of New Mandalorian school children being taken to Doctor Zaz's hospital seeking treatment for severe stomach pain as a result of the slabin overdosing.^[1]

Zaz, seeking an answer to the question of what had caused these children's sudden illness, investigated both the food and drinks served at the children's school but found nothing out of the ordinary. However, the New Mandalorian leader, Duchess Satine Kryze, and the visiting Republic senator, Padmé Amidala, acquired a bottle of the affected tea for Zaz to test; his test revealed the presence of the high slabin concentrations, leading the two politicians on their way toward putting an end to the Moogan smuggling ring. Kryze and Amidala also acquired antidotes for the slabin poisoning, which Zaz and the hospital staff administered to the sick children.^[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

Zak Zaz made his first appearance in Star Wars in the 2010 Star Wars: The Clone Wars television episode, "Corruption", part of the series' third season and during which he was voiced by experienced voice actor, Corey Burton.^[2] Zaz is the second Mandalorian doctor to be introduced into canon, and the first to be identified among the New Mandalorian faction. The first Mandalorian doctor to appear in Star Wars was Mij Gilamar, a character originating in the Republic Commando series of novels by author Karen Traviss.
