"What about the fish?"
―An emissary of the Clarr family[2]

Sposia was a planet in the Chiss Ascendancy where thousands of Chiss families and millions of Chiss lived.[2] Around 18 BBY[3], Syndic Prime Mitth'urf'ianico (Thurfian) held a hearing with representatives from the Clarr and Obbic families, about the safety of fish on Sposia.[2]

Sposia was defended by orbital security forces comprised of crew and ships belonging to the Kynkru, Obbic, Clarr, and Csap families. Each of those four families had strongholds on Sposia, so they shared duties and command of the planetary defense forces.[1]

The Stybla family, one of the Ascendancy's Forty Great Families, ran the Universal Analysis Group ("UAG") from Sposia.[2] The UAG was a secretive research project of the Ascendancy dedicated to reverse-engineering alien technologies acquired by the Chiss Defense Force.[1] Over the course of his career, Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn" had acquired a gravity well projector from the Vagaari pirate operations,[2] a "Republic energy shield" from his mission to Mokivj,[4] and a Watith lattice artifact from a skirmish against the Watith. The lattice artifact enabled a starship to identify when other vessels would exit hyperspace with at least 90 seconds advance notice. Thrawn brought each of those three artifacts to the Universal Analysis Group on Sposia for the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet to reverse-engineer with the goal of deployment for the Fleet.[1]

Although defense technology was the UAG's main focus, some of the technologies its scientists replicated were civilian in nature; including high-capacity storage used in questis data-link readers and a particular manner of cooking food.[1]
